A friend of mine shared it with me several years ago, and it’s now my go-to granola recipe. It’s simple, basic and has become the granola recipe I use to then build upon. I store my homemade granola in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator. My children enjoy it for snacks, or with milk poured over it as a cereal, or sprinkled on top ice cream. i’ve been trying to come up with a protein bar that my whole family will eat. mainly one that won’t fall apart and that doesn’t require some sort of syrup to hold it together. i like the Kind bars, but they have more sugar than i prefer. nothing i’ve used as a binder has held these bars together, thus far. after looking at several recipes, i combined several ideas and found one that i think we will all like. and it gives good room for adding your favorite ingredients.

this time of year is so nostalgic for me. growing up, my parents fed us so well. i remember being sick of eating steak and vegetables. ha! before dinner, if we were hungry, my mom would say, “you can eat your salad first if you’re hungry.” because most of our meals were coupled with a side salad. vegetables, fresh from our garden, were always on our plates. the meals were so well-balanced. now as an adult, a mom feeding her family, i can look back and see how incredibly blessed we were to eat such a healthy diet.
